Below we uncover answers to some of the more commonly asked questions about the dental veneer.

    Are veneers worth getting?

When seeking out options to improve the appearance of your teeth, it is often dental laminates also known as veneers, that are highlighted as the longer-term solution. With a simple cover placed upon the front of your tooth, the imperfections can be taken away and a new, confident smile may begin to shine through. Whether the imperfection is in the form of a chipped tooth, the stains from drinks such as tea, coffee or wine, or whether a tooth is slightly out of alignment, the veneer can disguise and cover the issue.

But what does it look like?

In truth it is essentially a false-nail type idea, where a thin piece of porcelain is bonded to the front of the tooth. The porcelain is previously created from moulds of your natural tooth to ensure that it blends in seamlessly with your smile.

    What to expect

It would be great to think about a treatment or procedure and just head straight in to have it carried out. However, in reality, this is unrealistic and therefore, having a consultation before diving into anything is the general protocol within dentistry. This process enables both you and your dental team to ask questions, gain a better understanding of what you are after and how to approach it in the most successful way.

The teeth, mouth and gums will undergo an assessment in terms of a physical examination alongside potential scans, X-rays and moulds. These enable your dental team to grasp the full extent of any dental issues you may be facing or showing early signs of, along with whether or not the treatment or procedure will be beneficial to you in the long term. These scans can then be sent away to create the tailor-made veneer

In the time between the consultation and waiting for the custom-made veneer, a temporary veneer may be applied which allows you to get used to the idea and inform your dental team of any potential alterations you may be after before your final veneer is created.

In most cases, within just two appointments the veneer can be attached to the tooth or teeth. It may be that some preparation to the tooth is needed beforehand and in this case your dental team will remove a thin layer of enamel, apply a dental adhesive and then attach the veneer. A simple but highly effective treatment to disguise and cover up the imperfections without the need for surgery or long-term treatments.

    Any benefits?

The benefits range from cover ups or reshaping to disguising gaps within the smile. This can then further lead to improvements in self-esteem and overall confidence. Therefore, contact your dental team if this is something of interest, as the simplicity and successfulness of the procedure is not something to shy away from.
